Steam Facial using Fennel seeds

Posted on

What is the best way to safely indulge yourself into a spa treatment in the comfort of your own home? Steam facial! Steam is probably the most efficient and safe way to open up pores and cleanse them of all the impurities they might hold. Not only does it help deep cleanse your pores, but it also works to hydrate your skin.

The way to do it at home is pretty easy: boil some water (a liter is enough) in a pot, once it’s boiling turn off the stove and wait for the bubbles to stop, lean over the pot, and cover your head with a towel, so that the steam will rise directly towards your face. Remember to keep your face at a safe distance, you should feel a warm sensation on your skin, it shouldn’t burn for it may cause broken capillaries! Wait at least 5 minutes, if you can longer (untill the water cools down). Once you’re done, you can use a gentle facial cleanser or scrub on your face and wash away the impurities that have surfaced. Before applying a moisturizer, remember to either wash your face with cold water or use an astringent tonic to close up the pores! Leaving them open will just make it easier for dirt to be absorbed into your skin, causing new imperfections.

Those are the basic steps to a correct steam facial. By adding herbs to the water once it’s boiling, you can improve the treatment, and benefit of the properties that the different herbs have. For instance, fennel seeds will help your skin appear radiant!

Fennel and its properties

Fennel is known for its high content of phytoestrogens, molecules of vegetable origin, whose function is very similar to estrogens, the female sex hormones. They can have positive effects on fertility, and on the immunity system. Phytoestrogens are also present in soy, cereal, nuts, and legumes.

Fennel is also said to help improve breast milk! And according to the Ancien Romans, who called it the “herb of sight”, fennel was very effective in curing eye infections.

According to specialists, the phytoestrogens contained in fennel, help balance hormonal levels in women, and it is very efficient in relieving menstrual pain.

Fennel works as a tonic and cleanser for the skin. It is rich in Vitamin C, and it helps rejuvenate the skin, giving it a radiant appearance.

To use it in your steam facial, just add 1 tablespoon of fennel seeds in a liter of boiling water. Once or twice per week is enogh to keep your skin clean and glowing.

    • Hi Sri, yes men can use this method as well! For blackheads, I found that a good remedy is applying a green clay mask over your face after the pores have been opened with the steam facial. If you repeat this step once a week for a few weeks you should notice improvements!
